What is an llms.txt file?
A Markdown file at the root of your site (/llms.txt) that gives AI agents a short summary and links to your most useful pages.
Is llms.txt required to appear in AI answers?
No. It is a proposal, and Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode need no special files. Treat it as a helpful extra.
Where do I put the file?
Upload it so it opens at yourdomain.com/llms.txt. The format also allows subpaths, such as /docs/llms.txt.
How is it different from robots.txt?
robots.txt tells crawlers what they may fetch. llms.txt suggests what is worth reading. Check both with our AI crawler checker.
Do you store what I type here?
No. The file is built in your browser. If you use “Draft from my site”, we read your public home page and sitemap and keep that draft for 7 days so repeat requests are instant.
What should I link to?
Pages that answer buyer questions: pricing, features, comparisons, docs and policies. Keep notes short and factual.
